The next generation Volkswagen Beetle is slated to debut later this year. And while it’s of course expected to retain the quirky shape and styling cues that it has help on to for decades, some are speculating that it will be far sportier and somewhat less feminine than the current model.
Independent designer David Cordoso recently developed a few renderings of what the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle may look like. Not only is the overall design in this rendering sportier, but it was also reported that the new Beetle will feature a wider track and longer wheelbase as well, which will give it a far different look.
In addition to styling updates, the 2012 VW Beetle will reportedly be more fuel efficient as well. Insiders have said that a hybrid variant is currently being considered, and reports have also suggested that an all-electric Beetle is also a possibility.
