New Beetle Helps VW Achieve 41 Percent Sales Increase

by VW in the News on February 4, 2010

Within the next couple years, Volkswagen plans on doubling its US sales as it strives to become the dominant automaker worldwide. So far, the German automaker is already off to a good start as January sales jump 41%.

VW reported that 18,019 car were sold in January 2010, which is 41.4% higher compared to the same period last year. Although larger models such as the aging Passat or the Touareg SUV did not provide stellar performance, other models such as the sporty CC and the compact 2010 GTI performed extremely well.

The most impressive model in the VW lineup is the New Beetle, which is currently in its final model year before the next generation is released. VW managed to sell 2,167 units of this quirky compact, which compared to this period last year marks a staggering 172.0% sales increase.

As the economy begins to recover, Volkswagen’s entry-luxury cache could be attractive to buyers that want the quality and amenities of a German car, but don’t want to pay the premium of a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Audi. Updated models like the 2010 GTI are also attractive, but with the current Beetle soon coming to an end, perhaps there are some Beetle lovers eager to get their hands on the current model while they still can.
