Next Generation Beetle’s Coming to Los Angeles

by jburney on March 19, 2010

Making its debut later this year at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the newly redesigned Beetle might just be the most dynamic Beetle ever created.

As sales have dropped over the years, the Beetle has been in dire need of something new. Like many car companies, last year was a tough year for Volkswagen; which is why something had to be done. Volkswagen’s new strategy, centered around the small, fuel-efficient Beetle, looks to be a step in the right direction.

In addition to the redesigned exterior of the Beetle, an upgraded chassis with wider tracks and a longer wheelbase work alongside a MacPherson strut suspension up front and a torsion beam in the back.

Underneath the hood is a standard 2.0L, 210 horsepower engine. One of the most exciting additions of the new 2010 Volkswagen Beetle is its engine options. Choose from a 105 horsepower 1.2L engine; a 160 horsepower 1.4L engine; and the U.S. will be introduced to a 170 horsepower 2.5L, 5-cylinder engine. Not satisfied? How about this one: the next-generation Beetle is also expecting a hybrid model release.

2010 has been a better year for Volkswagen, as January sales have increased 41%, selling 18,019 cars to start off the new year. Things may be looking up for the German automaker, so prepare to welcome in the new additions to the Volkswagen Beetle.
