Three Volkswagen Special Editions Hit Dealerships

by VW in the News on February 25, 2010

Volkswagen has announced that it wants to triple sales in the U.S. by 2018, and part of that effort is a triple dose of special-edition products.

The VW CC R-Line gives the automaker’s already-expressive sport sedan an aggressive new body kit that includes side skirts, front bumper and front spoiler, along with unique 18-inch wheels, smoked tail lights and assorted R-Line badges. Changes to the interior are limited to brushed aluminum door sills, but the overall package truly enhances the CC’s styling, creating a distinct alternative to cars like the Ford Fusion Sport or Mazda’s Mazda6.

Staying with that sporting theme is the Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition. This model was designed to leverage VW’s TDI Cup racing series, an SCCA-sanctioned competition in which drivers compete solely in factory-prepped Jetta TDIs. The Street Edition Jetta gets the same aerodynamically proven body kit found on the racers, boasting a special front bumper, side skirts and rear valance, as well as special 18-inch wheels and high-performance rubber, larger brakes with the requisite red calipers and a specially tuned suspension. On the inside, buyers will see supportive sport seats, a multifunction steering wheel and brushed aluminum door sills. Diesel power—whether it’s on the race track or off—is still fighting for acceptance in the U.S. market, and the Jetta TDI could certainly help that battle.

The latest in a long line of short-run New Beetles, the 2010 New Beetle Red Rock Edition will be an eye-catcher to say the least. It will feature a metallic Red Rock paint job on the body and a black roof for a two-tone appearance, enhanced by an all-black interior. Special 17-inch wheels and an upgraded sport suspension are also part of the package. It’s a lot of appeal for a limited edition, with VW set to manufacture just 750 units.

The bottom line: The New Beetle Red Rock Edition starts at $20,390; the Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition begins at $24,990; and the CC R-Line gets a base MSRP of $29,590. All are on sale now.
