Volkswagen Plans for the Future

by jburney on January 20, 2010

Looking to the future, Volkswagen unveiled a new concept coupe at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. In addition to this, they have identified the United States as a critical market for them in the upcoming years. The company expects to double its market share in the United States over the next three to four years. During this time, Volkswagen estimates it will sell some 450,000 vehicles, many of which manufactured in the United States.

Volkswagen’s plans to ramp up their North American manufacturing production begin in August, with the newest version of the Jetta being built in Mexico. Additionally, a new plant will open in Chattanooga, Tennessee in July of 2011, where the Volkswagen midsize sedan will be manufactured. The plant is expected to produce over 150,000 vehicles per year. After the plant opens in Tennessee, Volkswagen expects to begin producing its new Beetle in Mexico. Volkswagen has suffered in the past from exchange rates when shipping vehicles from Europe to the United States, hence the increased manufacturing in North America and the new plant opening in Tennessee.

With the technological advancements and the new sleek design, the Volkswagen Jetta sedans and station wagons are both providing glimpses into the future. These two models are the highest selling vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen in the United States.
