Although Toyota has just predicted a six percent increase in sales in 2010, the automaker still has to battle Volkswagen and General Motors for the title of the world’s largest automaker. Unfortunately, it seems that Toyota’s recent quality and safety concerns may make that title easier to capture by competitors as 2010 progresses.
Confident in his company’s position to claim this coveted title, VW’s CEO Martin Winterkorn predicts that the German company will overcome both GM and Toyota by 2018. Mission Volkswagen says the automaker’s expanding lineup will help its U.S. dealers better compete.
Volkswagen AG possess seven nameplates, including VW, Seat, Audi, Skoda, Lamborghini, Budget, Bentley. This lineup gives VW the ability to be competitive in nearly every segment, in nearly ever market. The Winterkorn believes VW will sell more than 10 million cars per year by 2018, and efforts are already underway to introduce 60 new models and new model revisions in 2010 alone.
Winterkorn says that among the new models arriving in showrooms soon will include a new Beetle and a new Passat. A number of new models will also be available from Audi, including the new A1, A6 and A7.
